UPDATE: Children aged 13-15 bailed over stabbing of motorist

Six children, aged between 13 and 15 years, who were arrested following the stabbing of a motorist in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday have today been bailed until April 26.

A 13-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys all from Houghton Regis, along with a 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy from Dunstable were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following the attack in Clarence Road.

Police today said they were carrying out extra patrols in the town to reassure the public.

The victim had been driving along Clarence Road when a young woman stopped in front of the car and refused to move. The man got out of the car to ask the woman to move and was then approached by a large group of people who were armed with various weapons.

The victim was stabbed several times, but was able to drive away to a place of safety before alerting emergency services.

Chief Insp Sean Quinn said: “This incident has understandably caused worry and distress to the people of Leighton Buzzard.

“However, I would like to assure the community that we are doing everything possible to get to the bottom of this.

“Violence of any type is never acceptable and we have a heightened police presence in the town following this incident to help prevent further disorder and provide reassurance to members of the community.

“If anyone has any information that could assist the investigation, or if they have concerns and would like to speak to an officer, I’d encourage them to contact us on 101 and ask to be put through to a member of the community south policing team.”
