Stiff competition for Shield

It was hosted by Leighton Buzzard Girlguiding with 4th Leighton Buzzard Guides taking the honours in second place behind 1st Maulden Guides, with 1st Toddington coming third.

Since September, patrols have been taking part in three different challenges to win a place at the event.

They had to create and perform a dance routine to be proud of; make a picture/photo collage of things they’ve done and would like to do at Guiding; and deliver a presentation or debate on one of three topics.

These were: All about me as a girl; what makes a good friend; and Guiding and the community.

Twelve patrols from all over Bedfordshire, including five from Leighton Buzzard and Linslade, completed in the 3Ps challenge in the final.

The 3Ps were Practical – making an elastic propelled car and boat; Physical – taking part in an archery competition; and Problem solving – working as a team in various challenges such as breaking codes, finding keys and tin can alley.

Event organiser Chris Daniels said: “Everyone who made the final worked extremely hard to get there and presented some outstanding work in the preliminary rounds.

“Their team work at the final was excellent and it was a very successful day.”
